Dad has Mesothelioma, been told he only has weeks to live

My dad 2 weeks ago was diagnosed with mesothelioma.  I had the devasting news on Wednesday that it was stage 4 and he only had weeks to live.  However besides being out of breath when he walks, a bit of pain in his lung when he lies down and feeing tired to me he seems ok so as you can imagine it was an absolute bombshell when they advised he only had weeks to live when he seems so well. Any advice would be so helpful to other people's experience

  • Hello Francescaz01

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis. I can imagine that it came as a complete shock given how well he sounds otherwise.

Has he been referred to a palliative care team or is the GP/District nursing team involved at this point? I would imagine that they would be the first point of contact for managing Dad's care over the coming weeks and making sure that he remains comfortable.

You might find it helpful to give our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I'm sure that they would be able to give you some advice and support. If you would like to talk to them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
