Mum diagnosed with stage 4 lung small cell sarcoma

Hi everyone. I'm new to all this so please be patient with me. My mum got diagnosed with stage 4 lung small cell sarcoma . It has spread to her liver, lymphnodes and spine . Her legs are now swollen and getting worse. The hospital won't administer any medication till an ecg is carried out ,this was a week ago. Is this normal? In this current climate with covid its hard as the hospital is under alot of pressure . Also her thyroid is enlarged and awaiting for the thyroid team to get in touch. Has anyone else been in this situation? Should my mum be ringing the cancer team about her swollen legs. Thank you for reading.  Just don't know who else to ask.

  • Hello Darcy81

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that she's struggling with things at the moment. I certainly don't think there's any harm in getting in touch with your Mum's GP or the team responsible for her care and asking for some clarification on what is happening with the ECG/medication and what can be done to try and help improve the swelling.

If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    Best wishes,
