How to help after family has been diagnosed

My grandad found out he has a tumor on his bowel and a mass on his pancreas (has to go and get a biopsy to see if the mass is cancerous) but its apparently a Reay rare type and after his appointment he (rightfully so) is very emotional and has been crying and jsut feeling hopeless. Is there anything I could possibly do to help? I am scared to see him get really poorly with it too :/

Thank you

  • Hi Youarevalid112,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm verry sorry to read of what your grandad is going through - I hope you're getting on OK. These things are always difficult and the uncertainty can be really tough.

I think just letting him know you are there for him will be a big help in itself - talking to him, seeing how he's doing, and also just having 'normal' conversations with him too.

I'm sure this will also be difficult for you also so do also make sure to speak to others around you, and/or us on this forum, to get support for yourself too.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
