Prostate cancer

My dad was diagnosed with prostate Cancer nearly 4 years ago. Unfortunately it's in his bones and lymph nodes.
we lost our mum to cancer back in may not even knowing she had it. My dad obviously was and still is finding it very hard to carry on as due to his cancer he expected to go first. He is also losing his eyesight. He has had all the injections and tablets to try and slow the cancer, but is now having chemotherapy to try and slow it. His PSA is now 8.4 he has as of 2 weeks ago had his 5th session, but this time it's really taken its tole. He won't eat hardly drinks anything, is very weak says he has no appetite whatever. Just seams as though he is giving up. He even said he doesn't want anymore chemotherapy and wants to stop his tablets. We have today spoken to the hospital and they have said they are quite confident it's the chemo, but if we are that worried to call out his doctor. Was just looking for some advice really.. regards Rob

  • Hello Rob

I'm so sorry to hear about all that your Dad is dealing with at the moment. From posts I've read here on the forum, it's not uncommon for patients to hit a wall whilst going through chemo and to feel that they want to stop treatment. However, I would also say that in most all of the posts I've read patients do continue.

I understand that things are difficult for you all at the moment. It's good that you've spoken with the team at the hospital. Do get in touch with your Dad's GP if you're concerned that he's not eating or drinking enough. If you'd like to talk to one of our team of nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that your Dad improves soon.

    Best wishes,
