New to group - Mum diagnosed with anal cancer

Hi I have just joined and hoping to get some support for myself and my mum.after having to leave her partner of 11 years  in February due to his family telling mum to leave and that they would look after him. She moved back to our hometown to be near us her children. She lives with my brother and his young family. Well things had not been right with mum since april.mum already has a stoma due to burst bowel and sepsis. She was having problems with discharge we tried on several occasions for the doctor to see her but couldn't because of covid. Well Nov I had enough and wrote to the hospital myself explaining about mum. She was rushed through for urgent scope CT MRI and biopsy. 4 days before Xmas we were told the terrible need mum has anal cancer. Mum started her ch mo and radiotherapy on Monday and she will be having treatment for 5 1/2 weeks. Mum is living with me since her diagnosis as it was a bit to much for my brother to take in after losing his wife to breast cancer.

  • Welcome to the forum Angiejohn although I'm very sorry to read what you and your mum have been through over the last year. It must have been, and still is, very difficult for you all but it's lovely to see how supportive you are of each other.

I'm sure some of our other anal cancer members will be along when they can to offer their support and advice but I hope this information we have about this diagnosis will prove useful as well.

We also have a team of cancer nurses you and your mum can talk to about her diagnosis, treatment and anything else playing on your mind on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between the hours of 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Angiejohn and sending strength and best wishes to your mum during her treatment.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
