First Oxaliplatin Cycle, side effects proving challenging

My husband has his first cycle (CAPOX) on 14.1.2021. He wasn't too bad the following day - his main issue was severe sensitivity to cold.

Since Saturday though he has had severe fatigue that doesn't appear to be improving and yesterday he started throwing up despite having metoclopramide on his syringe driver.

He has stage 4 gastric Cancer, diagnosed just last month, and already he just doesn't know how he'll cope with 5 more infusions... Especially with how much it is affecting his quality of life.

I know they tell you not to Google life expectancy but he has seen it says 1 to 2 years and doesn't want to feel this way with the time he has left.

He is only 41, we have young kids... The youngest is just 10 months old. He has some lymph nodes near his stomach affected and one small spot on his liver.

I'm just looking for some advice really, does anyone know when he can expect to start feeling himself? Is there a chance that the next cycle could be a little easier or it going to get progressively worse? Any tips on what we could do to try to make him feel better. Thank you.

  • Hello Saramol83,

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is having difficulty coping with the side effects of his cancer treatment.

With this in mind and until you have a chance to chat with others here who can share their experience with you, I wanted to leave you with this page from our website with information on Oxaliplatin (Eloxatin) and this other page about managing side effects. I hope this can be of some help.

With best wishes to you and your family,
