Husband fighting oesophageal/stomach cancer

Hello everyone,

My husband (52) has gastric cancer, diagnosed as stage 4 in August. Diagnosed as not curable and we were given 12-18 months prognosis. He is having chemo at the moment - Folfox - and is really struggling with side effects.

We had some positive news just before Christmas after his scan - partial response to chemo. Both primary and secondary cancers have shrunk. We didn't get much more detail at the time as were changing consultants. The new consultant is talking about possible immunotherapy. But that would mean that they would be trying to cure it, is that right? 

It's been an awful blow to us and getting through the first two months was the hardest. I so want to hope now but also scared that it's a false hope.

    I am so sorry you are going through this, we are in a similar situation (stage four oesophageal diagnosed in November) and my husband is struggling through his second round of EOX chemo. We got told just before the last round that he was HER2 positive which means he can have Herceptin targeted therapy and that this was good news, but I felt numb, I had just been told the month before he was incurable, and I was scared of false hope as you say (although we have never been given any kind of time prognosis, either way) 

    I am not medically qualified or knowledgeable enough to know what the immunotherapy means for your husband, but I do know what its like living with this disease, and how quickly it robs you of everything happy or normal, I feel quite numb at the moment to be honest, seeing my husband suffer is killing me.

    Hi, I lost my husband in June aged 57. Found out June 2019  he had osephegus cancer and it had Already spread to his liver so was not curable. He had 3 chemos at western park and it shrunk alot, gave him 3 more and it didnt work to point where he couldn't eat anything, food got stuck and was very painful. Gave him radiotherapy in January and he started eating again and put weight on. They then gave him 3 more blast of a different chemo which made him very sick and ill but didnt work so stopped all treatment when covid came, that was it all downhill till he passed away.

    I so feel for you both this is horrible, and i wish you all the best. I do hope they can do something for your husbands.
