My husband has cancer resistant metastasised cancer

Hi

My husband is 65 and has had Prostrate Cancer for 9 years, first diagnosed when he discovered he has BRCAII gene. He had the prostrate removed and was given hormone treatment for about 7 years but it became resistant and it has spread to his pelvis and lymphs behind his stomach. He had chemotherapy but it didn't do much. His psa this week has gone up to 81. He is having a CT scan on Sunday. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect? He says the oncologist is not worried but I don't believe him, he doesn't tell my the truth because he is trying to protect me but my brain is all over the place imagining all sorts of things. I really need to be able to talk to someone who knows what this is like, I am struggling.

thank you

  • Hello Sal43

I just wanted to pop on and post to wish your husband all the best for his CT scan tomorrow. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about the rise in his PSA and hopefully, the results of tomorrow's scan will give you both some reassurance.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them when they're back in the office next week. I'm sure they will be able to give you some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

thank you so much for your reply. I have told him that I want to be with him when his oncologist rings with the scan results as he isn't always great at giving me the full picture. I have him back on a vegan diet, lemon juice in the morning, cutting out sugar as much as possible. I have also suggested he talk to his boss about reducing his hours at work to four days a week. I will ring the nurses once I know what the scan results are.

    once again, thank you
