Hi. My dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer in late 2019. He had been going back and forth to the hospital for small tumours removal, probably every 6 months. He went for a biopsy about 3-4 weeks ago to check on things. He got a call today to explain that the immunotherapy hasn't worked as well as they hoped. They told him he has a shadow closer to the muscle and obviously they worry about it penetrating the muscle.
He has been given the option for him to either continue going back and them checking on the cancer progression, then removing any cancerous tumours, or have his bladder removed and have the bag (sorry can't remember the name) attached.
He is 74 and in relative good health barring this cancer. He went through a big operation about 15 years ago on his colon and now has a colonoscopy bag. If he decides to have the bladder removed, it means two bags.
Obviously he's sad about the situation and it hurts to know he's gotta go through this and make the decision. I personally believe the bladder removal op is the best option, but I just wanted your opinions on this.
Has anybody experienced this personally or within the family? How did the operation go? Is it the best option? It's very tough as my mother also died from breast cancer when I was 13. I am 32 now and suffer from mental health issues, so this is all a stress on myself too. I also wanted to speak to others just to air out my worries. Thanks.
