Hello all,
I am posting in hopes of someone being able to help me understand when the end is near...
my dear grandad (73) has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (which has spread to the lymphatic system). The whole thing was a massive shock for us all. He was diagnosed almost 11 weeks ago and is due to start chemo next week. He was told that without chemo his life expectancy would be 3-6 month, and with the chemo (if he reacts well) he could potentially live up to 2 years. He does not feel very positive about the chemo working (which I imagine is something every chemo patient must fear?).
My questions are
- would his life expectancy without chemo be 3-6 month going forward or is that from diagnosis?
- how will we know when the end is near? Currently he has no symptoms what so ever. He has found he isn't able to walk as much as he use to (5 mile per day) but other than that he feels exactly the same, and it's breaking my heart because to look at he looks just like grandad. He looks his great healthy self.
I am finding it difficult to accept what is happening as it has all been such a shock and I can't get over how amazing he looks for someone who has such an unforgiving disease. I am worried about seeing him getting weaker as he's always been so healthy and active.
many thanks
