Trastuzumab for Oesophageal cancer (HER2)

My husband has stage four oesophageal cancer, with mets to his lung, lymph nodes chest etc. He found out this week that he tested positive for HER2 gene and is now being given Trastuzumab (Herceptin) immunotherapy alongside his EOX chemotherapy. Has anyone got any insight or experience of this please - is it successful? The consultant seemed quite excited about it.

  • Hello Daisy71

I've had a look through the forum posts and I can't see that we've any members who have mentioned having Trastuzumab as part of their treatment regime for oesophageal cancer. The fact that your husband's Consultant seems excited about it sounds positive.

We do have quite a few members who have oesophageal cancer or are caring for a partner with this diagnosis. Hopefully, they will post to share their tips and experiences regarding food.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure that they will be able to give you a bit more information about using trastuzumab in these circumstances and may be able to offer some advice and support about feeding as well. If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you, I would love to understand it more, everything is all new. Am even worried about how much he has slept since his treatment Tuesday but am sure its to be expected. Appreciate the reply thank you.

  • Hi Daisy,

    I hope you're well!

I came across your post while looking for info on treating HER2 positive oesophageal cancer with Herceptin and, as moderator Jenn pointed out, didn't find an awful lot!

My mum has just found out she's HER2 positive and her team are looking to start her on Trastuzumab alongside chemo. If you're able, I'd be grateful to hear about your husband's experiences so we can find out a little more about what to expect? Don't worry if you'd rather not share right now - I know sometimes explaining everything can be very stressful!

    Thanks

    C
