Gastric Cancer Treatment

My husband has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. It has spread to his lymph nodes and he has one small spot on his liver.

He is due to begin treatment this month. We received info regarding treatment through the post. He's going to be having capecitabine and oxalaplatin (sorry I probably spelled that second one wrong).

I'm wanting to know what will happen after his 6 cycles of treatment. I have stage 4 breast cancer myself and finished 6 cycles of chemo in October last year and am now on herceptin and perjeta. Will my husband be offered any type of immunotherapy?

I've read on line about a treatment called keytruda but no one has mentioned this to us so I'm wondering if it isnt available. Are there any other options?

We have a small baby and need all the help/advice we can.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Saramol83

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's recent diagnosis. I'm sure it was very difficult news to hear particularly coming so soon after you've also recently finished a phase of your own cancer treatment.

It's good to hear that there are treatment options available for your husband and I hope that those go smoothly when he starts later this month.

We've some information on our website about treatment for advanced stomach cancer which you may find helpful but I'd really suggest giving our team of nurses a call. I'm sure that they will be able to offer you some advice, support, and information that will be useful and help you to ask the right questions at Consultant appointments. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
