Palliative care

So..... ive had ao much help from people here going through this awful *** battle.

My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer secondary liver, he had his colon op in september and has had 4 chemo sessions since for his liver. There have been many ups and downs in the last few months, but today... well today we were told there is no cure and its palliative. He has a pet scan in jan which will determine if they can continue treatment to prolong the inevitable or weather thats it.
The liver mass has got *** amd its back in his colon. I look at him and other than putting on weight due to the steriods he looks healthy he smiles he goes to work i just cant get my head around this, he doesnt look unwell or even act it the majority of the time.
could the scan show different couod they be wrong how can there be no cure arghhhhhh

  • Hello Kirsta1986

I know that we've had members post here on the forum in the past who have said they've also found it difficult to reconcile how someone who looks so well can have incurable cancer. It really can be a difficult thing to get your head around at times.

On the plus side, it's good that your Dad isn't feeling ill and at the moment is able to carry on living life as he wants to. Hopefully the PET scan will bring some positive news about treatment options.

If you think it might help you to talk about things with one of our nurses then you're most welcome to give them a call. I'm sure they would be able to offer some support. If you'd like to talk to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how your Dad gets on with the scan.

    Best wishes,
