Hip and back pain. Is this a sign of lung cancer spread?

Hi

Hubby about to have round 15 immunotherapy for stage 4 LC with liver mets

He's been complaining of hip/back pain for about 6 weeks now. Tried heat/ice, stretch, walks etc but I'm worried in case its cancer spread. CTs are chest area only (very limited spread since Feb so treatment working) , but how would he know if its now in bones?

Do we take no further sideeffects as the signal all ok?

Just one of those things in the back of my mind.

Thanks

  • Hello,

My dad had metastatic lung cancer that had spread throughout his whole body. His first symptom was back pain - this was because the cancer was in his spine.

Although constipation is also another symptom, if cancer is in the bones then the calcium would be high. If high calcium is not showing in his bloods then I would think he's ok but maybe best getting blood check?

The cancer pushes the calcium from the bones into the blood and that's how we get the high calcium reading xxx

  • Thank you for your reply Rebecca

He gets his bloods done every 3 weeks and as yet calcium has not been an issue

Nurse today said it doesn't sound related to treatment but he can get GP to request body scan if he wants

Thank you for putting my mind at rest. I had thought there would be other symptoms just wasn't sure what

    Snoops x

  • That's great - it was a real issue for dad high calcium causes confusion, constipation, nausea etc so not very nice!

I myself have developed a health anxiety and every little change in my body I fear the worst! Its perfectly normal for you to worry - just try not to worry too much as you may make yourself ill (easier said than done).

if you ever aren't sure about anything you could contact the nurse/doctor and they should be able to advise you.

hope everything goes well and 2021 is a positive year for you x
