Ovarian, Perithoneum cancer and swollen legs/feet

My mom is on chemotherapy.  She has had 7 sessions and the chemo instead of reducing the tumor has increased it.  The fluid in her belly has increased also and now her legs and feet are hurting from the swelling.  She now can't wear her usual clothes and cannot fit into any of her shoes.  Little by little she is prefering to stay sitting down and all because of the swell.

They've told her that it is because of the tumor and that the chemo will help, but I've also read that it the chemo's side effect that has produced more liquid in her body.  Surely if it is so common, there must be a way to sooth this. My mom's life is becoming miserable and purposeless for a side effect. Can anyone help?

Also, will the stronger chemo that she is starting this next week, make everything worse?

Is there some diet, or exercise, that could help her?

Thanks.

  • As I noticed this is your first post with us, I wanted to stop by to say hello and welcome you to our forum, BBC.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum, it sounds like she's going through a rough phase.

As no one replied to your post yet, I searched our website for information about managing cancer symptoms and possible side effects from cancer treatment and found this page which I hope can be of some help.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that our lovely team of nurses are available for a chat too if you want to speak to someone medically trained over the phone. You can reach them on this phone number: 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Wishing you and your mum all the best,
