Lung cancer grade 4

Hi all, completely heart broken as is my family. My mother recently got diagnosed with lung cancer and has been in and out of hospital with fluid on lungs now. 3lts where removed each time she went in.

Anyway now they have told us she is not fit for treatment so will not be offering it.

Mum is now home on O2 all the time and is very sleepy and not eating much. She is wondering why she is on morphine patches as she said she is not in pain. We are going to contact the hospital tomorrow to find this out.

I am now just wondering what to expect next.

Does anyone know from their experience in life expectancy?

Is this my mum in her final stages? Or what am I to expect?

Kind regards x

  • Hello Dinnie

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that she is now too unwell for treatment. Understandably this will have been hard news for you all to take on board.

Were you able to speak to someone about her morphine patches yesterday? I hope that they were able to give you some advice and support.

You don't mention in your post if your Mum has been referred to the palliative care team or the local district nursing team. If she hasn't then do get in touch with her GP who should be able to help arrange this support for you all.

If you'd like to talk to one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them. They are available Monday to Wednesday (9am-5pm) next week on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
