What can I expect

Mum has reaccuence small cell lung cancer since August her tumour on her lung grew from 1cm to 8cm and spread to her lymph. We were told with treatment she would have 9 months and without she will have up to 6 month. Mum is not going through chemo again for the sake of 3 month and due to covid does not want to risk hospital as wants to die at home. I am going to be moving in with her when things get bad, but when will this happen. She still managing everything, yes she struggles to breath sometimes but she dont look like some one that's dying, could they have it wrong. Why dont she seem I'll when given such little time. I am struggling to cope with the uncertainty. Anyone experienced this.

Many thanks

  • Hi,

So sorry to hear about this. Time is such a difficult thing, most people wont be able to give you the answers as things vary so much! I'm glad your mum is still doing ok, try and see if you can book a telephone call and talk to your mums doctor. I was able to do this for my mum. Maybe asking a few questions and getting a bit more clarity on what to expect might help. Also get a referral to the palliative care team and talk to them, they are incredibly helpful and will support you throughout.

My father passed away 6yrs ago from cancer when I was 16 and I am currently carring for my mum with Acute myliod leukemia. Its a horrible disease and I would not wish this on my worst enemy.
