My Dad Has Liver Cancer

Hi,

My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer, we were first told in august but nothing has been done to treat him. There has been multiple biopsies to determine how severe the cancer is however they all failed. All we knew was that it covered an extremely large part of the liver. This is his second cancer (his first was non Hodgkin's lymphoma), less than thirty percent of his heart works due to silent heart attacks. However today we have been given news that the cancer has spread to his lungs and is more advanced than stage 4. I'm only 19 and a second year university student, I've had to come home multiple times and I'm heartbroken and scared that this is happening as he has lost a drastic amount of weight, he is in hospital and it really isn't looking good. I'm the only family he really has and he is my best friend, I'm so broken and stressed by not only this but by university work as well. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice or anything at all, I just don't know what to do and I feel so lost.

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear this. I lost my father 6 years ago bowel cancer that had spread to liver and lungs when I was 16. And I am currently caring for my mum with terminal acute myeloid leukemia. Best advice I can give (I'm not very good at taking it!) Is to not beat yourself up about struggling, it's normal! After my dad passed away I carried on with my A levels and went straight to uni, in hind sight I should of taken a year out to sort out my head! There aren't really any words for what your going through. If you ever want to chat add me on happy to talk! Take things day by day, do what you can to help your head. For me that's baking! Everyone tells you to go for a walk but I just over think during it! Listen to yourself and try let yourself feel comfort in whatever way you can.
