My Dad’s cancer has spread to his liver

My Dad had a cancerous lump removed from his salivary gland a year ago. This week they've found a lump on his liver (biopsy next week). I know what this might mean, I'm so devestated. He doesn't want to talk about it.
Has anyone had experience with treating this? I'm trying to hope, but can't find any.
I can't even visit him because of COVID, it's breaking my heart.

  • Hello Wheresthesun and welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am so sorry to hear about your dad and that they have found a lump on his liver this week. I hope that the biopsy goes well next week and that you find out more soon about what is going on.

I also hope that you will hear from some of our members' stories and experiences of looking after a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer that has spread to the liver.

It's so sad that due to Covid you are not able to visit him. Many here will know exactly how you are feeling at the moment and what a heartbreaking time it is for so many families who want to be close to their loved ones but who can't do so because it would put them at risk. Perhaps you could try ringing him or organizing a video call so that you can see him and speak to him? I know it really isn't the same though but it might cheer you both up a little to be able to talk to one another even though it is hard for him to go through all this with you.

If you wanted to talk to our cancer nurses about anything, all you need to do is ring this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Best wishes to you and your dad during this difficult time,
