Dad diagnosed with esophageal cancer & parkinsons disease

Hi recently my dad got diagnosed with esophageal cancer, and parkinsons disease on the same day, ever since i have really struggled to come to terms with it, my dad was released from hospital and my mother really found it difficult to cope, even though me and my sister helped as much as we could.my dad is currently back in hospital after getting a bad infection, im really scared of what's ahead of us. I'm finding it hard to carry on with life as normal

  • Hello Geoff1979

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis. It must have been incredibly difficult to get news of both his cancer and Parkinson's on the same day.

As your Dad is in the hospital please so speak to the nursing team and let them know that as a family you will need support if Dad is to come back home again. They will be able to liaise with the appropriate teams to see what care package may be available. Alternatively, speak to Dad's GP who will also be able to help.
I also think it may help if you have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be able to offer you some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I know this will feel like a scary time but you're not alone. Keep in touch with us here on the forum and I know the community will do what they can to support you.

    Best wishes,
