Parent being sent home, palliative care now under way, tough

Hi, I am new to the forum having found great comfort reading along in my fathers early diagnosis a few years ago. He has fought a long battle and seen so many family milestones and seemed to be getting on well even with all the hardships of COVID. Unfortunalty he took a bad turn 10 days ago and we have been told that it is best he is sent home from hospital   - all of a sudden palliative care drs and nurses are everywhere and the whole thing is very overwhelming. I am trying to be a pillar of optimism in the family - especially mum who is the only person allowed to visit - we knew he wasn't well but never thought he would deteriorate so quick - he is showing signs of improvement in the hospital although the outlook does not appear to change. It's just so difficult to process. I just keep praying and hoping that he levels out and the palliative care is not an immediate end. Thanks for listing. Any hope would be much appreciated.

  • My heart goes out to you.   My husband is stage 4.  The same happened to him.  Hospital could no longer manage his pain.    But please be comforted, that pallative care is the best thing for patients.  Meds can be changed daily until correct level is found.   I even crumbled when the hospital arranged to send him to a hospice.  But ut really is all about keeping patient as comfortable as possible.  It is very busy for you at moment but it will all become clear.  I promise you.    Pallative care saves all those appointments and waiting times.  My husband is in the hospice now.  For pain management.    It is essential.  Hope this helps.   God bless you all
