My mother had a persistent cough for quite a while but wasn't picked up by GP or referred for further investigation. She then got so bad on holiday abroad that she had to be rushed into hospital on her return and only then did we found out the diagnosis. Unfortunately it was too advanced for any kind of treatment so she is now under palliative care.
Amazingly this diagnosis was over 2 years ago with no treatment and has not been in hospital at all. Whilst it's great that she is still around, just feel I know nothing as to whether it is spreading further etc other than see her physically deteriorate.
She lives 200 miles away from me and difficult to talk too as she really struggles with conversation and memory which makes me think she is deteriorating fast now. My stepdad is doing an amazing job of supporting her even though he has had cancer twice himself and a quadruple heart by pass in the last decade! All the help they have is a carer in once a week to bath her etc.
Is good that she is surviving so long but difficult to find out medically how she is and with all the lockdowns (Wales) I am more limited to how often I can see her.
And whilst lung cancer is often caused by smoking she has never smoked so even more surprising.
Just all so unknown and don't know who to talk too as difficult to speak to family as we are sll so spread out.
