Husband has liver and bladder cancer

My husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer in March this year and also liver cancer in August. Due to COVID his treatment for bladder cancer was delayed and his cancer had regrown by June when he returned to the hospital. He needs bcg immunotherapy for his bladder but this is again on hold until they decide what they can do for his liver. He is having a wedge pressure test on Wednesday to see if his liver is healthy enough for major surgery.
we were told that both cancers were treatable at the beginning but due to all these delays (the two hospitals have been awful!) I'm struggling to believe that my husband will be ok. He's in constant pain and a lump has developed on his leg. Trying to get a doctors appointment is proving very difficult.
I'm struggling to know how to help and support my husband. I just feel so angry all the time.

  • Hello

Just wanted to say I know how you are feeling.

My husband was diagnosed 28 months ago and I was so angry.  Just when the children had grown up and we were starting to have a life together Cancer happened.  It seems like a really cruel blow when we have both worked hard all our lives!!

Hopefully your husband will have really brilliant oncologists and surgeons looking after him just as my husband has.

You sound like you are doing all you can to help.  Other than chasing everyone up, cooking, cleanng, driving him to appointments and being an emotional punchbag there is little more you can do.  We have really enjoyed reminiscing about all of the fun times we have had together with our kids and how lucky we were to meet each other.

    Take care of yourself.

  • Thank you for your kind reply. It helps knowing that someone else understands. I hope you and your husband are doing well.
    best wishes
