My mum has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Hi everyone.
We have all just found out my mum has terminal stomach cancer. I'm just not coping with it all. I'm only 20 and my mum is only 42. Any time I think about it I cry and I want to stay strong from my mum and my gran but it's proving hard.
Is there any suggestions on how to cope better with this cruel roll of dice.

Thank you

    Hi Em-Louise,

This is a particularly cruel roll of the dice for all of you. Faced with a situation like this, we all seem to find the strength from somewhere.

How are your mum and gran coping with her diagnosis? It is early days for you to digest all this. You will cry in private and, this is a good release valve, so don't worry about it.

The main thing is to make memories while you can. Is there anyone or anywhere that your mum would like to see? If so, perhaps you could arrange this whilst she is still well enough to  do these things.

Is your mum currently at home or in hospital and can they give her any further treatment to prolong her life, or is this no longer an option? The big question is where she wants to end her days - at home, in hospital or in a hospice. If at home certain arrangements may need to be put in place - see my reply to Charlie at the top of this page, as she is in a similar position.

You are young to have to go through this heart break, but you will find the strength to see it through. Do you have any other siblings to help out?

I am thinking of you all. We are always here for you.

    Please keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
