Neuroendocrine cancer

My husband was diagnosed Feb last year - grade 2 stage 4 small intestine primary spread to peritoneal cavity, omatum, liver, femur and hip bone and mediastinal node. He had emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction in Dec 19. Only treatment is monthly Lanreotide. He hasn't reacted well to his diagnosis...  doesn't understand or ask questions on his diagnosis and thinks ( from things he has read on google) that he has a couple of years to live. He drinks a bottle of vodka a day. He is very angry and to be honest is awful to live with.... I have read of carcinoid rage! I know people can live a long time with NETs but I would like an honest appraisal prognosis wise due to the spread and his drinking habits. His NET team won't oblige and we have had limited communication since Covid.... his next appointment is March. I should probably say he is seemingly doing ok at the moment all things considered but he will not talk about his condition or how he feels. He is taking no pain meds.

  • Hi Buddyk

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and that he's struggling so much with things. It sounds like it's a very difficult situation for you both.

We have a member here on the forum [@andydorro1]‍ who has been living with NETS for 14 years now I think and I can see from his previous posts that he has also had Lanreotide as treatment. Hopefully Andy will see this post as I've tagged him in and I'm sure that he will be able to offer some insights from a patients perspective.

Obviously if he doesn't want to talk about things then it's a difficult situation but I wonder if you might find it helpful to speak to one of our team of nurses who I'm sure will be able to offer some advice and support. If you'd like to call them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that things improve and settle for you both.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
