T4 cancer

Ok, so my mum has been diagnosed today after an op to remove most of her bowel with T4 cancer, it's gone to the lymph nodes and she now had to have a lower bowel and chest CT scan to see if it's gone anywhere else. She is one of the fittest and healthiest people I know , we watched her best friend die a few years ago of a very similar thing. She's very resilient though and just wants to know that I can get a good wig for her, she's due to start very aggressive chemo in two weeks, we are laughing about it after the initial scare but really I'm not, I'm terrified, she looks so small and sounds so weak, if there is anyone with any advice out there I'd be so grateful xx ️

  • Hello Hollyvic24

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's recent diagnosis. I'm sure that it's been an incredibly difficult time for you both and it's understandable that you're worried about what the future holds for her.

The fact that she is fit and well and has lots of resilience will stand her in good stead through her treatment. I think that most of our members here who have been through diagnosis and treatment will agree that having resilience and a little humour helps!

I wonder if you might find it useful to have a talk with one of our nurses. I'm sure that they will be able to answer some of the questions that you have and offer some advice and reassurance. If you'd like to chat to them they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. Do think about giving them a call.

In connection to your point about getting Mum a wig, we do have some information here on our website which might help. If she's been allocated a specialist nurse then it's certainly worth speaking to them about wigs or alternatively speak to the chemotherapy nurses who may be able to signpost her to local services. Hopefully some of the members here who have bought wigs will post to share their recommendations as well.

    I hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
