whipple surgery

my husband was diagnosed with cancer in a duct that fed the liver and pancreas.  In November  2019 after just a few weeks he had a whipple surgery lasting 9 and half hours with complications of leakage straight after.

His first appointment with the oncologist was end January 2020 but he was not fit or well enough to start chemo which was to mop up any cancer cells left as they couldn't get big enough margins during the surgery due to a main artery in the location.

He was to have 2 types of chemo, one intravenous and one tablet form but with Covid looming it was decided to just give him just intravenous.

He started the Chemo a month later end February.  After 3 months he had a scan and it was found he had secondaries on his lung so went on the tablets as well.

He has now been on both intravenous and tablet chemotherapy form3 months and has had his 2nd 3 month scan and we are waiting (anxiously) for the results.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Hiljohn although I'm sorry about your husband's diagnosis and that secondaries have been found on his lung. It must have been very tough to hear that news.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support but in the meantime I just wanted you to know we're thinking of you both and will have everything crossed that the 2nd scan results show the chemo is working.

    Kind regards,
