Chemotherapy help

Hi my partner was diagnosed with breast cancer it was grade 3 but they have never told us the stage the tumour was 2.5cm and 16 lymph nodes were removed and 10 of these were affected. My partner has been told she's to get 6 sessions of chemo followed by 5 sessions of radiotherapy then hormone. She has just recently had her 2nd dose of chemo and she is really struggling with nausea and sickness. She has now decided that she no longer wants to have anymore chemo and I am heartbroken and full of worry that if she doesn't have the chemo that it will return in the future and spread. I do not know how to support how she's feeling in regards to this and just could do with support myself with what I am best doing

  • I'm sorry about your partner's diagnosis and the tough time she's having with her chemo. These are common side effects but if she's really struggling her medical team should be able to provide something to combat this and make it more manageable.

I know you've mentioned that she no longer wants to continue but if you can, do try and see if she's willing to let her team know how difficult the chemo is proving to be as they may be able to alter it or go down another route with treatment.

I hope this information we have for family, friends and caregivers will help but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,
