Caring for mum

It is very likely that mum has rectal or bowel cancer, we fought to get her seen at GP during covid  so hopefully it is not too late for her at 84

We finally had a hospital call today they asked if anyone in the family had bowel cancer and she has to have a blood test and a scan while we wait for a consultation it has taken 2 months to get to this stage and this was only because I kept pushing to get her seen. She has been uncomfortable for months and 8 have seen site of undiagnosed area and it looks painful I have been helping with hygiene and on monday I am being showed how to care for area and how to apply dressing and now they have decided to contact occupational health

We are all a bit scared and it has come as a shock to our mum.

  • Hello blue64

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has been experiencing these health problems for some time now. She's lucky to have you to advocate for her and hopefully won't have to wait too long now for the tests that the hospital have requested.

We know that this period of uncertainty can be really difficult for many people and it's natural to be worried or anxious about what may happen next. If you'd like to chat to one of our nurses about things then please do give them a call. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer some advice and support. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
