Dad coming home to pass away

So on the 3rd of July, my dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer after many doctors brushed his symptoms off as a hernia. He had to have emergency surgery to remove some of his bowel. Originally the docs thought he would be able to have chemo but when being in hospital, the cancer seemed to spread very quickly and has now cemented his digestive system, therefore is inoperable. Hes coming home today after being told that nothing more can be done for him. Im devastated, my family is devastated. My mom suffers an awful lot with her mental health and has never been on her own, theyve been married for 36 years.

Is there anything I can do to help her? I have a baby son who turns 1 tomorrow so we will surround my dad with alot of love and celebration of my sons birthday.

Im trying to be strong but would love to know if anyone has any advice.

Thanks

Lara

  • Welcome to the forum Lara although I'm really sorry about your dad.

This is clearly a tough time for you all at the moment but I hope you had a lovely time celebrating your son's first birthday the other day and managed to make some lovely memories for him to look back on when he's older.

I'm sure some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but I hope this information we have for family, friends and caregivers will prove useful at this time.

Our cancer nurses are also available for a chat on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you all,
