So my Dad's chemo failed and can't operate

Hi, I'm new here so apologies if posting in the wrong place or not following the usual etiquette.

My Dad has oesophagus cancer. T3 N Mo. I believe this is equivalent to a 'stage 3' growth.

4 rounds of Chemo seemed to be unsuccessful in that it didn't shrink the Tumor, although it hasn't grown or spread any further.  They attempted surgery to remove the tumor but in theatre they observed that it was too large and near too many major arteries, therefore too high risk.

So, what now? Is he likely to live a reasonably comfortable number of years or is this time to consider that there isn't much longer?

Advice or support would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

  • Firstly big hugs to you. I'm sorry your going through this.

My mam had lung cancer and unfortunately we lost her 3 weeks ago.

Watching someone you love so dearly go through such a hard fight is extremely hard.

I'm so sorry your dads chemo didnt work.

Has your dads oncologist suggested any other type of treatment? Immunotherapy? Radiation?

Every cancer is different and everyone fighting it is also so different.

Wishing you and your dad all the best and will keep him in my prayers x

  • I'm so sorry to hear this & sending you big hugs.

My great aunt had stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her lungs & lived a healthy happy life for over 20 years with it. There's so much they can do to help & so many other treatments too that could be an option so try not to loose hope. Talk to your family & the specialists who may have more ideas on any further options but most importantly enjoy every second with those you love without the C word always being there

  • Hello,

Also very new here as just found out that my Dad has a cancerous tumour in his tonsil area and is due to start chemo and radiotherapy in a couple of weeks. I believe it's a T3 tumour and has been told they can't operate on it due to its size.

If you'd like to chat with someone going through a similar situation, let me know!

I'm not sure what to say but just know that there's a complete randomer from the internet who's thinking of you and hopes things work out for you and your family xx
