My father was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma last Feb and had 5 rounds if chemotherapy over about a 5 or 6 month period and then everything seemed ok.
About 2 months ago he developed a chest infection which with antibiotics seemed to clear up then around 3 to 4 weeks ago really bad cough came and antibiotics didn't even touch it, the oncology dept said it had sounded like an infection at the time.
With no change he spoke with his oncologist around 10 days ago which said that the symptoms are the the cancer has reemerged, he's hardly eating and with the help if codeine and now morphine its suppressing the cough enough for him to sleep at night.
He coughs and sleeps his way through the day taking in little food. He has palliative care nurses going to see him tomorrow and is waiting for the results if his bloods before he has a scan and then sees his oncologist on 14th Aug.
My mum's been told to expect him to sleep more and more now... my question is this... is this the end???? How can they be so sure when he's not even had his scan or its results? For sure he looks bad and I guess if it's not the cancer then what else could it be.
He wasn't given a stage last year when he had the diagnosis... his lung had filled with liquid, his breathing was bad and then the scan showed something in the lining if the lung.
We are waiting like this for at least another 3 weeks I til.he has his scan and its just horrible not knowing.
Sorry for long message.
