Mum has Endometrial C, what help can we get at home for her?

Hi there,

Long story but need to get off my chest....  Dad died in January afterquickbattle with Liver cancer,  6weeks from diagnosis to passing!  Mum was ill with foot and would only go after dad had passed as she couldn't deal with anything else! We then had to pack up their house in Spain and she has moved in full time with my husband and I in the UK all in the space of 2 months.  Lost her husband, moved, amputation and diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Mum has been diagnosed with IVb Endometrial cancer, she has metastes?in her lung and on her liver.  Docs  have said she is not strong enough to under go chemo/radiotherapy because of recovering from the partial amputation of foot through diabetes(they found the cancer after a st scan checking out her circulation for further treatment of the foot).  Mum has now been put on Tamoxifen as the Megace has not worked.  Understandably mum is very low and not well, she is bed bound because of the foot healing and DVTs on lungs so watches tv.  I am working but cannot be with her all the time and also need to spend time with hubby who by the way is amazing supportive.  What help can we get and does anyone have any advice on how we tell family members and friends about her cancer.  It All feels very surreal at the moment.

  • Hello Vikkianna

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis along with her other recent surgery and of course the loss of your Dad. Undoubtedly it sounds like it's been a difficult few months for you all.

In the first instance it would be worth getting in touch with your Mum's GP to find out what services are available locally and may be accessible/suitable for your Mum's current needs. If your Mum has a nurse specialist then I'd also suggest getting in touch with them and asking for some advice.

We have some information on our website for family & friends about coping with cancer which you may find helpful as well as this information about talking about cancer.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some advice then please do give them a call. They are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
