Mum is sleeping lots

Mum has moved in with myself and my family for her end of life care. She is on morphine which  i know makes her sleepy but the last couple of days she has been sleeping lots more,  not talking and seems so much weaker.  Is this near the end?I am just trying to prepare myself .

  • Hello Mrsmc1976,

I am so sorry to hear about your mum - it must all be rather distressing for you and your family but it is good to know that she is pain free and surrounded by those she loves the most. I am sure it will be reassuring to your mum to know that you are by her side at the moment.

We have detailed information on dying with cancer which you can read on this page. What happens in the final days of life is obviously different for everyone but this section on our website will give you some indication as to what might happen in the last few weeks and days. I hope this will help you a little and that you will also hear from others on this forum who have also looked after a loved one and been there with them at the end of their lives.

We're thinking of you and your family during this difficult time. Don't hesitate also to ring our nurse helpline if you feel the need to talk things through with them. They can be reached on this free number 0808 800 4040  - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
