My husband has no appetite

I have read some other posts and I know this is a common symptom but, my husband will not drink anything.  I have bought him protein drinks, he will not drink them.  He had some milk with banana milkshake yesterday and has only had two half cups of tea today.  After the milkshake he felt ill and went to bed.

He has not eaten anything at all today and yesterday only ate some icecream.  He will not try any of the things on the liquidised diet paper we got from the hospital, nor will he call our contact in the oncologist department.

I am at my wits end! He does have oesophageal cancer, which is obviously in a bad place for eating or drinking!

  • Hello,

the only suggestion l could make is to buy small amounts of lots of different types treats and leave them around the house, think graze rather than meals, sip rather than swallow or guzzle.Small bottles with straws by them or tiny dose cups.Just something to stimulate his desire, because you can always build upon small amounts.Ice lollys can be useful for liquid without drinking, you used to be able to get them in a plastic tube sachet that you squeezed them out, were they called fruit loops ?,and can be used frozen or as a drink,

good luck and hopefully things will improve,

                                                                                                     David

  • My husband has t eaten properly for months.  He has no appetite and it is painful.  Not to mention almost chokes.

Weve had a chat but ultimately I can't force him to eat. We've got some fibre drinks from the doctor.  He is trying to drink some.  Even if it just 1 bottle,a day.

He has also started radiotherapy to reduce the lumps in his throat, windpipe and chest area.
