Mum just diagnosed Dad not coping

Hi my mum has been told this week that her recently diagnosed cancer is at the stage that she has 4-6 months and with chemo a little longer - due to COVID she has had to go through all this on her own which is so upsetting for her and us Dad is devestated they have been married for 56 years and he is upset and terrified he is now staying with me until mum comes home and im trying to get him to understand how things will be with mum when she comes home from hospital they are both in their late 70's just wondered if anyone else has the same situation - note neither of them are technically minded which is hard as they cannot face time each other

  • Hi AliV and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry about your mum's diagnosis and the impact it is having on your parents. It sounds very tough.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in similar situations will offer their support and advice soon but I just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you and that our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to talk things through with them.

Wishing you all the best at this difficult time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
