Is the end near?

My 19 year old brother was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable bile duct cancer which had spread to his lungs liver stomach and bowel in February since then it has been a whirlwind and we was never really given an exact time of how long I feel like I've been told many different times I don't know weather our parents are trying to protect us and not telling us this information because even my brother doesn't fully know. He was having chemo but has now stopped we've watched him deteriorate massively his weight has dropped to 6stone he's in constant pain no matter what meds he's on the doctors said he's on the highest doesage they can give him or there worried they will kill him,he can't eat he really struggles to swallow he becomes confused with day and night the doctors have also said now his liver is enlarged and his lungs are filled with fluid I know it's probably the most stupid question but how can you tell the end is close I don't want him go but I don't want him to suffer anymore I stayed over night with him before he went to to the hospice and I feel like that night will stay with me forever the pain he was in was unreal or does anybody have anything I can do to make him more comfortable from there own experiences we've bought him water bottles for his stomach loads of special pillows etc thanks in advance

  • I'm really sorry about your brother Jessy.

This must be such a difficult time for you all at the moment but I hope this information about what to expect in the last few weeks and days will help. It can be a bit of a tough read so do only go through it properly when you feel ready to do so.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Thinking of you all at this time.

    Kind regards,
