SCLC how to cope with symptoms and what to expect

hi,

My dad has SCLC, it was treated pre Xmas and he had an all clear scan, then since March he has been feeling as though he had a headcold, a scan 5 weeks later relvelaed a tumuor in his lymph in the center of his chest.  He is now back on chemo and have radiotherapy, the tumour seems resistant.  Hes struggling to breath, cant sleep abd feels like hes choking when he eats.  Please tell me when this will subside and we will start see some pregress.  Anyone out there with a positive SCLC story?  If so please share, hope is whats getting us all through,

Best to all,

x

  • Hello JoJoC,

I am sorry to hear about your dad - it must be so hard for you all especially after receiving the good news a few months ago that he had an all clear scan. I hope that the chemo and radiotherapy treatments will prove successful. Those symptoms you describe sound quite debilitating - it might be worth giving his GP a call and asking whether there is anything they could advise to help him sleep better, or to help with his breathing or eating issues.

There is information on our website on SCLC which you can find here and you can also find out more about treatment for SCLC on this page which I hope will be useful to you.

If you ever needed to talk to our nurses about anything, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will hear from others on our forum who have been affected by SCLC and that they will come and share their stories with you. It does help to talk to others who are going through something similar at the moment or who have been dealing with this in the past.

    Best wishes,
