Which Category - vulnerable or extremely vulnerable?

My father has incurable prostate cancer with spread to his lungs, bones and liver that is being managed with Enzalutamide and three monthly Zoladex implants.  At the moment he is shielding as he has been identified by the government as being at risk of contracting Coronavirus.  He's confused as to whether he falls into the vulnerable category or extremely vulnerable category.  He is desperate to go back to work but my mum and I won't let him until we know for sure which category he falls into.  He's got another five weeks or shielding.

  • Hi Weas3l,

If you're unsure what category your dad falls in to then do try and get in touch with his hospital specialist to find out. If this isn't possible, then you or your dad should contact his GP.

The categories can be confusing so you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of cancer nurses. The number to call is 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

I hope you're able to get some clarification on this soon Weas3l.

    Best wishes to you all,

I am going to speak about it with my onco but I personally cant shield any longer its horrible.I feel physically very fit.I am only 42 so I cant even retire.

I think your dad needs to speak to his doctor.
