Kidney cancer

my partner was diagnosed with kidney cancer 4 weeks ago.

is there anyone who has kidney cancer.

  • Hi Arzu,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm very sorry to read about your partner - I hope you're getting on OK. There may be others here with some experience of this - the best thing may be to browse or search the forum (using the button in the blue bar above) for other similar discussions.

My reply here will also boost your post so if anyone has experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Arzu, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer 3 weeks ago. Left kidney, 7.5cm tumour, so they plan to remove the whole kidney laparoscopically (keyhole), hopefully this month sometime but I'm still waiting for a date.

How about your partner, have they said what they plan?

How are you all doing? It's very scary, especially the wait, but I've heard such positive stories in a support fb group that certainly helps keep me less negative.

  • Hi Nic my partner was diagnosed with a kidney cancer that is 23cm stemming from left kidney. He is awaiting a surgery date the surgeons can’t tell us exactly what other organs are involved till they open him up as the tumour is too big and is pushing everything around. Possibilities that were mentioned were removal of spleen, part of colon along with the kidney. It’s stage 3 cancer.

the more I read about it the scarier it gets. His symptoms are getting worse I had to get supplements as he has no appetite and have started throwing up.

I hope your surgery goes well and hopefully your recovery will be fast as it’s keyhole.

  • Hi Arzu. 23cm is a large one isn't it, I can understand why you're very scared. There are many options for this type of cancer, even stage 3, so keep hopeful. It's good it's been found now and is in the system so hopefully it won't be long before they operate and then you'll know exactly what you're both dealing with and what options there are.

If you're on Facebook do join Kidney Cancer UK Support Group. There are people on there that have been through it, with much worse than mine, and they are so supportive. Their positive stories have bought me back from misery many times. And they have knowledge of other treatment post surgery that might help you and your partner.

I do hope everything goes ok for you both, I will be keeping you in my thoughts x
