Grandma likely has ovarian cancer

My nana recently had to go into hospital because of renal failure. Since then theyve essentially ruled out cirrhosis which leaves cancer. My mum is a consultant so she's told me its about 80% likely its ovarian cancer judging by the symptoms, she lost or they deliberately drained 6 litres of fluid today which makes it much more likely it's late stage. Shes 84 and lives, like all my family, in Ireland so I cant even see her for a long time. I'd just like to know if there any information that's relevant to her for me to read. I want to know more about what's going wrong with nana so I can help in anyway I can, and if she does have late stage ovarian cancer how long she may be with us so I can see if I can visit her before she leaves.

  • Hi Rudap,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your nana - I hope you're getting on OK although I'm sure this must be incredibly difficult.

The best thing will be to wait to find out more from her medical team - any diagnosis and then next steps. They are the only ones who can really advise on this, and on a prognosis. Unfortunately no-one here can really help in terms of what to expect, due to not being involved in her care. Try to get as much information once it's all available and hopefully this will help in terms of being able to help and plan things.

Do use this forum for any additional support as much as you'd like during this time.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
