Mum diagnosed with stage 4 Kidney cancer

Hi

My mum was admitted to hospital last friday with suspected kidney infection to be told on the Saturday they found a mass on her kidney and it's stage 4  kidney cancer which has spread to her liver. She has clots all around  her kidney. She's been at hospital since and they have been amazing. Tonight she told me she's been placed in an IV drip (sodium lactate) due to her liver function but not sure what it means. I don't want to Google symptoms etc anymore.

  • HI ELF1984 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your mum's diagnosis but I'm glad she's being well looked after since being admitted to hospital.

If you're able to get your mum's permission you should be able to ask her medical team about this but if that's not possible then you're welcome to give our cancer nurses a call next week. They're are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Thank you Steph for your message. Just hard at the moment as all communication via my mum. We are unable to visit her due to covid-19 so hoping we hear more soon. I will contact the hospital for more information, we was hoping she would be home for the weekend but her temperature and blood pressure is to high.

It's come as a shock as we thought she had a kidney infection.

    Thanks again for your message
