My mother has cancer again

Hello forum

This is the second occasion I have posted on this website.

My last post related to my father's late renal cancer diagnosis and subsequent death over a 4 week period in late 2018.

Now my mother has as far as we know cancer of the liver and still waiting on biopsy information for primary. she survived bowel cancer in 2012.

I am a 33 year old male who is utterly scared of what's next to come which is having both a psychological and physiological effect on my health and it has only been 4 days since diagnosis.

I just want to find the strength to help her and not destroy myself as it's not what she would want..

  • Hi Tristan,

Firstly I'm so sorry to read about your mother. No doubt you will have felt and be feeling a whole range of emotions. Try to let these happen and understand everyone reacts differently and it's OK to feel how you feel.

While it's often easier said than done, try not to look too far ahead with this and instead take things one day at a time. That could be the best approach to both help your mum but also yourself too.

There are plenty of support options available should you need it, for example speaking to Macmillan, to those around you, or to us on here - or a combination.

Be sure to look after yourself during all this, and to support your mum but also focus on time to do things you enjoy.

We're always here for support on this forum so do keep checking in as much as is helpful for you.

I hope you're able to find out more soon about this.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
