If anyone needs to chat

Hello, my name is Ange and sadly I lost my Dad to duodenal cancer on 14th November 2019, he was 85 years young.

Since his palliative diagnosis in September 2017, Dad and our family went through all sorts of emotions and it’s fair to say that I struggled badly with my mental health. Having taken the decision to quit my job as a healthcare assistant, I spent 4 months helping my Mum care for my Dad at their home in Stockport and yes it was incredibly tough. Dad fought against any kind of outside help but eventually with the family’s help, he acknowledged that we all needed support, my Mum in particular. We had assistance from the Stockport district nurses, Macmillan nurse and carers coming into the house. Dad wanted to be at home until the end and he got his wish. He passed away in his sleep at home in his own bedroom. I wish Dad had felt able to talk about how he was feeling but it wasn’t to be. For whatever reason, he just couldn’t or wouldn’t talk about his illness. He must have been so frightened and angry, I know I was. He is at peace now and no longer suffering which is a blessing.

If I can be of any help and support to anyone needing to chat, I’m only too glad to be there xx

  • Hi there ..

And welcome ... you are so needed ... sadly, cancer doesn't give a break to anyone ... it is relentless...

There are so many on here ... in that possisition you were in .. there is some amazing people on here, that try to answer as many as we can, but with life causing problems, there are those that fall through the gaps ... the one thing we all have in common is this crule cancer ... anyone who can fill some gaps would be amazing ...

If you see any threads .. and I know I answered one today, who has their dad at home who is on his last journey... who's dad is in lots of pain and can't get help .. anything you could say would be amazing , even if it's just moral support...

So here's to you joining our little chat room ... even helping one will make difference ... it's a tad confusing at first, but you can pick it up as you go along ... Chrissie x

  • Hi Chrissie and thanks for your welcome

Ive just sent a long message to Nadja so hope it helps her and her family.

Ive also just posted a message on the fundraising forum about my head shave booked for 2nd June 2020. Aiming for £200 but as much as possible really, fingers crossed !

Thanks for all your input into the chat forum, I hope I can help people too

    Ange xx

  • Hi ..

Yea think that's amazing, and good luck on your target ..

Just a little thought on here, sometimes it looks like we take time to answer a thread, and no one replys .. that doesn't mean they havnt looked, or others look on too .. it can help people who look on threads but don't want to write things down .. so never dout just how much it can mean ..

I think it's a bit like pay it forward ... someone helped me when I was new here, and held my hand .. so I wanted to "pay it forward" for the kindness that I got ... so welcome again .. any time you need to chat for you too .. I'm here most days ... Chrissie xx

  • I have a swollen lymph node in my groin. One is quite big but the other two are normal. I have had an infection for the last year but the lymph nodes haven't reacted but recently they've started to enlarge and cause pain when I touch my lymph node and near it

im sorry about your dad I lost my mum 3 years ago to lung cancer
