My mom has cervical cancer

My moms been having radiotherapy for a week now and now today is coming back from her radio & first chemo, I was wondering if there is more I can do for her, I do not know much as my mom doesn't like to discuss it, Im 18, I also have 2 brothers in the house so I have to look after those too, i feel like rubbish, and I feel like I'm not doing enough..

  • Hello Lizma,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Your mum is very lucky to have you by your side. Just the fact that you are coming to this forum to ask whether there is more you can do for her proves how much you care about her and how much you are probably doing already to support her. It sounds like you are looking a lot after your brothers and I am in no doubt that your mum very much appreciates that as it will allow her to rest after her radio and chemotherapy session. You could perhaps ask your mum if there is anything else you can help with, whether she would like a cup of tea, little gestures like this will undoubtedly touch her immensely.

We have a page on our website on how to support someone with cancer which you can find here and which I hope you will find inspiring. But don't push yourself too much - you also need time for yourself at the moment to recharge your batteries when things get  bit much.

I hope that you will get chatting soon to others who here who are or have been looking after a loved one with cancer. It helps to talk to others who understand what you are going through at the moment.

I hope your mum is doing ok and not suffering any side effects from her first chemotherapy session.

    Best wishes,
