Mum has SCLC - help...

My 69 year old mum has just been diagnosed with SCLC. This seems to have come out of the blue but acquired a bad chest before Christmas 2019 which never left. She had an x-ray and CT which has shown two tumours in the right lung, one large and one small. The large one is growing fast an impeding her breathing. She is currently in hospital on steroids while the medics determine a course of treatment. No one can be with her due to Covid19. I am in despair and fear she doesn’t have long as the tumour has grown again in the last 3 weeks!

  • Hi BeckiH,

Welcome to Cancer Chat - although I'm so sorry to read about your mum. I can imagine this must have been a shock and no doubt it is incredibly difficult to not be able to see her. At least she is in the best place to get the best medical support.

I know there's not much I can say to help but try to take things one day at a time and try to wait until you know more about this. Hopefully once you find out more there'll be some clear next steps to take.

Meanwhile do use this forum as a safe space to write down any thoughts or worries at any point. We're always here for support. It's a very welcoming and understanding community of people, and it's often helpful simply to write things down too.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you're able to find out more soon,

    Ben
