Radiotherapy delayed for 6-8 weeks

Hi all, I'm a newbie and worried about my nan. She has lung cancer and has been through a rough time lately with her chemotherapy, she had 6 rounds and also developed clots on the lungs. She was hospitalised also and we thought we were loosing her... Anyway her tumour shrunk which is amazing news, and she is due to start 20 sessions of radiotherapy, although because of corona virus it has now been postponed for 6 to 8 weeks. She wanted to go ahead with treatment, but the oncologist (who is a lovely man) doesn't believe its in her best interests. I'm just worried now that the tumour will just grow again and all the chemo she has had will have been pointless.

  • Hi Kelz1418,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about what your nan is going through at the moment, although it's good to hear the chemotherapy was effective.

It's unlikely the 6-8 week delay will make much difference - as they would have taken this into account when making the decision to postpone it - but if you remain concerned about this you could always give our nurses a call as they are a little better placed to advise. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

And of course do feel free to use this forum as much as is helpful at any point - there will be many people here who understand or who may be going through, or have been through, something similar.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
