Self care and beauty advice needed

Hi,

This is my first time here and I'm just looking for some advice from people's own experiences.

My mum has recently been diagnosed and is understandably upset so I’m just trying to do what I can to help. She’s really into hair/makeup/nails etc and is also upset about the unknown effects treatment will have on her appearance. So what I’m trying to do is put together a little beauty guide for her so she knows what to expect from head to toe and what treatments or products she can use to help her be a little more comfortable and feel more like herself throughout - literally covering everything from skincare and makeup down to hairbrushes, toothbrushes, wigs and whether there are any particular scarves/head wraps/hats that are recommended to help keep cool in the summer/warm in the winter without irritating the scalp.

Obviously I know nothing about this and I'm sure there are so many things that are affected that haven't even crossed my mind, and I obviously have no idea how she's going to feel, so I’m just looking for people to help me who have been through or are going through it and can highlight the changes they felt they had and any tips and tricks to help cope with it or make it as comfortable as possible

Any help or advice would be so greatly appreciated

Thanks so much

  • Hi amyem,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your mum, although I think this sounds like a really lovely thing you're looking to do. I'm sure it will mean a lot.

I expect you'll get further replies from other people on the forum soon, but I thought I'd share Look Good Feel Better with you - it's a helpful resource which could be of some use. They also have workshops in hospitals (although these are currently being held virtually).

There are also many different items available in our online shop for those going through cancer - hopefully some of it may be helpful.

Wishing you all the best with this and as I say I'm sure you'll get some great advice from others on here soon.
