First oncology appointment

My husband was diagnosed with a brain tumour 7 weeks ago, last week he underwent surgery to debulk tumour.

We were waiting on results but now got a call to say we are to see the oncologist at the local hospital and bring next of kin? Is this something they ask each time as I'm scared it's going to be the worse news

  • Hello Linsey46 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour. It's understandable that you're feeling scared about the appointment. Hopefully I can offer some reassurance in saying that it's common practice for Dr's to tell patients to bring someone with them for support regardless of the news that they are giving. It's easy to forget things that are said at an appointment so having someone there for support and to provide an extra pair of ears is useful. You might want to think about taking a notepad with  you so that you can write down any information that you're given as well.

I'm not sure when the appointment is but if you'd like to talk to one of our team of nurses before you see the Oncologist then you're welcome to give them a call. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (not on bank holiday Monday).

Keep in touch and let us know how you both get on.

    Best wishes,
