Coronavirus letter

Good morning everybody, sorry to talking about the vileness of what is going on whilst we already have much suffering already.

What I would like to ask you all is, have you had your high risk letters that apparently gives you access to help with things such as food deliveries. On the Web there is a copy of a government letter sent to GPS saying we would have had them by the 23rd.

We haven't had one and I am suspicious that because my husband although having chemo to extend his life, he has been given 6 months in February that they are not going to send us one because they are not interested in us as life is already limited. Sorry to rant but am very angry.

  • Hi I finished 5 weeks chemotherapy tablet form and radiotherapy to shrink a tumour in my bowel on the 12th March 2020 when I asked doctor for sick note he said I was vulnerable and to isolate for 12 weeks but I have not received a Coronavirus letter should I have and if I am isolating am I aloud to go out for a walk xxx

  • Can I just make an observation. Several of my fellow melanoma patients have received these letters. They are no longer taking immunotherapy drugs, the period between them differs from 3 months to 18 months since their last treatment. Early on in the Government advice the list mentioned those who have had chemo, immuno etc and have recently finished their treatment (unfortunatley I can't find the link but I will keep looking). No time period was put to identify what they considered 'recent' so we are assuming it's anyone who has had these cancer treatments in the last 2 years. This may be why you and the others on this thread have received the letters. For those who haven't but have finished treatment in the last 2 years, I suggest you contact your GP or consultant. or you can register at the link that sillymillie has kindly added in her post.

  • Thanks Angie, this is helpful. We did try our GP but she knew less about the letter than we did. Appreciate the information you have given though.

    Stay safe

  • hello - I am in similar position - finished chemo and read for BC 12 months ago and yet I received the NHS letter this week, identifying me as 'at risk; although not on the list of categories for those at rish. My GP surgery don't know why. Have you had any joy re an answer to this issue?

I find it an additional worry - and a mystery too.

    Many thanks in advance ...

    stay safe!

  • Hi, no we haven't had a letter, I got a text message with a link to the NHS website. We are not to bad at the moment, as fruit and veg shop has started delivering to us also the chemist

The oncologist team rang to say that Kevin can have his appointment by phone on Tuesday, so that is a big help because the hospital is an hour away and a teaching hospital, so very busy. Thank you for respo ding, best wishes and virtual hugs xxx

  • On Friday I couldn't get hold of anyone to talk to about this at my BC clinic, but have found this, which might explain it.

"Active chemotherapy" appears to include anyone who had had chemo in the last 12 months.

Not sure if that is the latest version, though, will keep looking.
